Dave King trio-fecta

So the common thread here is drummer Dave King, and thus the best drummer and potentially best musician I know of/have seen. He plays in several groups out of Minneapolis--the more popular one is The Bad Plus. He also plays in Happy Apple, who know a lot of us jazz/perscussion dudes at Lawrence and play a show here every year. Both of these groups are somewhere in that gray area between classical, jazz, rock/pop and it totally works. They've covered everything from Nirvana to the entirety of Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. Here are some of my favorite highlights:

  1. I feel petty commenting on the appearance of Happy Apple, who look exactly like what you would expect from a band of that type/caliber--like old guys living in their mom's basement. It made me think of how funny it would be (and consequently I am demanding of you) to have a band that went back to the days when bands were dressy endeavors, like the early Beatles in matching suits or Sinatra / the Rat Pack in their tuxes....the juxtaposition with your post-post-modern musical inclinations would be terrific

  2. The Bad Plus is bad ass plus...I really like "Giant." Do you have it as an audio file so I can put it on my phone?

Also, this is really more of a computer science question, but you might know: are there any examples of computers composing music, independent of human input?
