okay, so I'm posting this at the beginning of the weekend because there are some instructions with one of songs. The first, Star Light, is just a pretty sweet tune I turn on every now and again. Not necessarily the best in any particular aspect (lyrics, beat, flow, etc.) but over all its a pretty dope jam.

The second, Blue-Green Arrow, has some special instructions for the first listening. When you get some time, either take a nice evening drive (that might be an anachronistic statement since you live in LA) or a nice evening/sunset/sunrise/etc. walk (maybe beach or if there's a kinda quiet place you can go to...I often put this song on and go for a night walk after its snowed and the Earth is all quiet and hushed). I'll send you the mp3 so that you can put it on your phone. It might be that I'm just a huge music nerd, but I think you'll have a really awesome experience.

Dave King trio-fecta

So the common thread here is drummer Dave King, and thus the best drummer and potentially best musician I know of/have seen. He plays in several groups out of Minneapolis--the more popular one is The Bad Plus. He also plays in Happy Apple, who know a lot of us jazz/perscussion dudes at Lawrence and play a show here every year. Both of these groups are somewhere in that gray area between classical, jazz, rock/pop and it totally works. They've covered everything from Nirvana to the entirety of Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. Here are some of my favorite highlights:

Grandkids

So this week was completely nuts for me and maybe you too, and I definitely felt like I could use some of the soothing sounds of the Grandkids to ease me in to this next week. The drummer of my band knows their drummer (we did a show together in Rockford last year). I really dig the singers voice
